Your historic hotel in Vienna
The history of the 4-star Hotel Erzherzog Rainer dates back to 1913 – the last year of peace before World War I. The political situation of the time, inflation and the depression until the beginning of the 1920s were a great challenge for the owner of the young hotel.
Leopold Nedomansky, by trade a purveyor of picture frames to the court, was angered by his customers’ inadequate payment morale at the time – and considered building a hotel because ‘A hotel is one of the few businesses in which you receive immediate payment for the service’. Because a prominent name is generally known to attract prominent guests, the resourceful purveyor to the court arrived at the idea of naming his hotel ‘Erzherzog Rainer’ after the city palace of His Imperial Highness Archduke Rainer, which was in the immediate vicinity. He quickly received authorisation to do so and in 1913 the hotel had its ceremonious grand opening.

In 1994 the hotel was taken over by the Schick family, which had previously owned four other hotels in Vienna. Since then they have had a close friendship with the Nedomansky family, the original owners. Today the Hotel Erzherzog Rainer is known as a hotel rich in tradition, run in a personal atmosphere and linked with 4-star comfort and ‘Viennese charm’.
